Pyrite and Sterling Silver
Photograph by Andrew Barcham

I originally wasn't going to have any professional photography done this year as I wont be graduating until 2012 but since I've put so much hard work into the fundraising efforts for this graduating year my teacher Lynley Traeger and classmates encouraged me to get a couple of shots done anyway. So in the case of this ring the photography happened whilst i was finishing it off... literally waiting in the room for my turn with emery paper and polishing cloth working hard right up to the camera click!
I've since oxidised the silver and it has become my new favourite piece of jewellery that I don't leave home without!

This is a sneak peek of a piece from my 'Series' project for the NMIT graduate exhibition 2012. Many MANY hours of scoring, folding, soldering and clean up involved... now to construct the rest of the series.

Sea dragon taking shape

I'm just heading home from my second last class with William Griffiths where I added big spikes to an already spikey seahorse wax I had made up a few weeks ago. I was going to add wings but I kind of like him as is...

Pyrite, silver and storms

This is all so new to me, however I'm determined to start a blog about the jewellery I create by hand here in Melbourne. To begin... this is my most current piece which William Griffiths helped me create in the wax workshops I've been taking with him in the Nicholas Building each Tuesday night this month. It's been an amazing experience learning all about how to work with wax as a process in Jewellery construction. This particular ring is quite top heavy being made with Sterling Silver and set with a rough natural formation of Pyrite. I've oxidised the silver on the outer surfaces as I felt the blackened silver looked better next to the gold hues of the Pyrite.
There is currently an epic storm brewing outside and I'm off to sit on my balcony to be a part of it.
